Scientific Colloquium
May 10, 2013

Celebrate Hubble's birthday with cake before the colloquium.

"Hubble at 23!"

This colloquium will celebrate the achievements and new scientific endeavors of the Hubble Space Telescope as it surpasses 23 years in operation. Hubble is now playing a lead role in science never envisioned at launch: analyzing exoplanet atmospheres, measuring dark matter through gravitational lenses, and gauging the mysteries of dark energy. Strategies for best using Hubble during its "senior years" are now underway, with the aim of maximizing the scientific return of its unique capabilities in the years leading up to (and beyond) the 2018 launch of JWST. Amazingly, the Hubble observatory is now more scientifically powerful than ever before, thanks in large part to instrument development and technical expertise at Goddard and the Space Telescope Science Institute and the incredible success of the final astronaut servicing mission four years ago.
