"The Heart of the Milky Way"
The center of our Galaxy is probably the best laboratory
for us to understand
high-energy astrophysical activities and their effects
on the Galactic
structure and evolution. We have conducted the first
large-scale
arcsecond-resolution X-ray survey of the Galactic central
ridge,
using the Chandra Observatory. This survey provides important
information
on the complex interplay among stars, gas, dust, gravity,
and magnetic
fields in the unique environment of the Galactic center
region. I will review
the results from the survey and other related observations
and discuss
their implications.
