"From Galaxies to
Sensor Networks: Science in an Exponential World"
Scientific data is doubling every
year. As a result, new paradigms are emerging in every area
of modern science. Almost every aspect of the scientific method is
undergoing fundamental
changes. The talk will discuss the challenges, and discuss new
approaches in dealing with
these enormous data sets of today and tomorrow, using examples of
astrophysics and space
science. The emergence of pervasive computing -- small sensors
everywhere – is already
impacting not only how we do science but our everyday lives. The
engineering principles
behind pervasive computing are finding their ways into corporate data
centers, like Google,
Amazon.
