"Tracking the Sources and Sinks of Greenhouse Gases with Satellites, Models ... and Interagency Partnerships "

Climate change is driven by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities, most notably carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). We begin by reviewing the state of scientific understanding of these greenhouse gases and NASA's contributions based on innovations in remote sensing and modeling. We also review recent policy and science initiatives that are changing the way federal researchers deliver actionable greenhouse gas information.

About the Speaker:

Lesley Ott is a climate scientist with 20 years experience studying air pollution and greenhouse gases. She received her PhD in atmospheric science from the University of Maryland in 2006 and has been working at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center ever since. She currently leads the carbon group within the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office, NASA's center for understanding contemporary weather and climate using a family of advanced Earth system modeling tools. Since 2024, she has been the Project Scientist of the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Center.
