"Voyager I Exits the Heliosphere by Crossing the Termination Shock"
In late 2004, Voyager 1 finally detected the Termination Shock(TS), the
1st major boundary of the interaction between the Heliosphere and Local
Interstellar Medium(LISM). The TS was identified clearly in magnetic
field data straddling Dec 16 when V1 was at 94 AU from the Sun. Pre-
cursor TS signals had been identified in earlier energetic particle
data in 2002-2003 and some was even mis-interpreted as multiple TS
crossings. The post-TS region, the turbulent Heliosheath, is found
to have very special properties. This talk reviews data from 4 V1
instruments, results of continuing Heliosheath observations and
implications for in-situ properties of the LISM.
