"Some Recent
Developments in Tropical Cyclone Dynamics"
While it is now possible to
numerically simulate a hurricane vortex in three
dimensions employing horizontal grid spacing of order 1 km or less and
no
cumulus parameterization, many fundamental questions remain about the
dynamics of hurricanes. In this talk I will present an overview of some
recent developments that have emerged in my collaborative research
concerning the mechanisms of storm genesis, intensification and mature
structure. These developments are shown to provide new and important
insight
into the intrinsic dynamics of these severe weather systems.
