"SILICON-BASED QUANTUM COMPUTATION"
Quantum computers - if they can ever be built - will be
able to solve certain types of problems that will never be solved by conventional
computers. While the obstacles to building a quantum computer are
formidable, physicists are currently exploring several promising approaches
for turning the dream of quantum computation into a reality. After presenting
an overview of the subject, I will describe the work in my own laboratory
to create devices capable of performing quantum logic using single electron
and nuclear spins embedded in silicon crystals.
