"Native Science" is a historic and
simultaneously contemporary body of understandings and practices
focused on perpetuating a dynamic yet sustainable relationship with the
natural world. It is this understanding of "relationships" that
synergistically bind natural forces, human community and other forms of
life that has formed the historic foundation for Indigenous people's
ability to survive and even thrive in almost every habitat on Earth. An
open exploration of the cultural history of "Indigenous Science" offers
perspectives and insights that can help us collectively work toward
solutions at this time of global environmental crisis.
