"New Insights into the Physics of Stellar Flares"

The Sun's transient flaring events represent major releases of energy, energetic particles, and mass which have the potential to affect us here on Earth.  Stellar flares are the most dramatic examples of variability seen on solar-like stars during the bulk of their main-sequence lifetime, and dwarf the well-studied behavior on the Sun by orders of magnitude.  By utilizing innovative observational techniques that span the electromagnetic spectrum, new insight into the physics of stellar flares can be gained.  I will describe recent radio and X-ray observations of stellar flaring events in a wide range of stellar environments which illustrate some unique aspects of stellar flares.
