"TIME REVERSAL ACOUSTICS IN THE OCEAN"
A brief review of the general ideas of phase conjugation
and time reversal
physics in optics and acoustics is presented. Then the
presentation is
specialized to a series of experiments in the ocean demonstrating
an
Acoustic "Time Reversal Mirror" in a complex medium.
The
analogy with adaptive and guide star optics is quite
clear but the
difference between optics/E-M propagation and acoustics
is suggestive
of interesting challenges for the former. A summary of
potential ocean
acoustic applications is briefly presented.
